FSSAI REGISTRATION

FSSAI stands for Food Safety and Standard Authority of India is the supreme authority which governs the food business in India. It ensures the food product undergoes the standardized quality checks to ensure that no sale of sub-standard products. It is the main authority who is taking care of registering and licensing of the food business operators in India and it also regulates the functioning of running food businesses.
As per Section 31(1) & 31(2) of the FSS Act, 2006 It is mandatory for all the Food Business Operators (FBOs) in order to obtain an FSSAI license or Food Licenses. FBOs are in the manufacturing, processing, storage distribution, and sale of food products must obtain FSSAI Registration or License. A 14-digit registration or a license number is given which is printed on all the food packages of FBOs. This aim for the registration procedure is to create more accountability on the FBO to maintain the quality of the food products.
FSSAI issues 3 different types of FSSAI food license which are mentioned below:
Central License (Large food business)
State Licence (Medium food business)
Basic Registration (Petty food business)
The above mentioned three licenses differ on the basis of the scale of operation of the food business.
The basic criteria to become eligible for a Central FSSAI Registration is that the yearly turnover is over Rs. 20 crores.
The essential criteria for applying for a State Food License is that the annual turnover of the business is somewhere between Rs. 12 lakh up to a maximum of Rs. 20 crores.
And FBOs that have annual turnover within Rs.12 lakh are required to apply for Basic Food Registration.
FSSAI registration initially begins with submitting Form A (application) to the food and safety department.
This application can be accepted or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the application date and the fact has to be intimated to the applicant in writing
If the application is accepted, then the department will grant a registration certificate with the registration number and the photo of the applicant.
FBO should display the certificate of registration at the place of business.

Photo Identity of FBO
Proof of possession of premises (eg. Rental Agreement )
Partnership Deed / Certificate of Incorporation / Articles of Association etc.
